Abstract :
ICVI derived Cf/SiC composites have gained considerable attention because of their superior tribological and high temperature mechanical properties. In the present work, Cf/SiC composites with and without BN interphase having 90% theoretical density were prepared through ICVI process. The SiC seal coating was applied to the composites through CVD process and the mechanical properties were studied. It was observed that CVD SiC seal coating had improved the mechanical properties significantly. Stabilized BN interface had modified the fiber–matrix interfacial bond strength to 9 MPa and improved the toughness. The microstructure studies gave good support to the mechanical property results.
