An efficient dealkylative addition of trialkylamines to dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates in the presence of a metallic chloride

Dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates react effectively with an array of trialkylamines in dioxane at 80 °C in the presence of a metallic chloride to afford the corresponding aminomaleates in good yields.
