Microwave-assisted synthesis of 1-aryl-3-acetyl-1,4,5,6-tetrahydrobenzimidazo[1,2-d][1,2,4]triazine: first example of a novel ring system

Novel highly functionalized benzimidazoles were synthesized in two steps by microwave irradiation: construction of the benzimidazole ring followed by ring closure to the new tricyclic system.
