A rapid acquisition of the bicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-9-one core present in garsubellin A and related phloroglucins

An exceptionally concise and stereoselective route to the prenylated bicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-9-one core present in garsubellin A and related phloroglucin natural products from the readily available precursor dimedone is delineated.
