1H NMR spectrum simplification of phenyl compounds containing electronegative groups by intermolecular interactions

Resolutions of 1HNMR spectra of aromatic protons have been greatly improved by using simple alcohols, aliphatic amines and aliphatic acids as solvent-induced shift reagents. The hydrogen-bonding between the solvent and the solute molecules, and the self-association characteristics of the solvents are responsible for the spectrum resolution enhancement.
