Abstract :
A phosphonic acid catalyst has been shown to promote the intramolecular cyclization of acylhydrazone 1. The resulting heterocyclic products, pyrazolidines, were isolated in good yield for a variety of acylhydrazones. Studies into the role of the phosphonic acid are presented and discussed.
