‘One-pot’ synthesis of nitrogenous heterocyclic compounds (1 and 2) containing a pair of biologically relevant imidazo[1,5-a]pyridine moiety has been reported; compound 1 being a planar molecule, shows enough flexibility during its coordination to bivalent transition metal ions forming, for example, a triple stranded helicate with copper(II).
