Abstract
The association of fibrinogen with the subsequent incidence of ischemic cardiovascular events many years in the future suggests that fibrinogen not only contributes to the critical thrombotic component of coronary artery disease, but also to the progression of plaque formation as well. The involvement of fibrinogen in the earlier stage of atheroma formation is supported by studies showing an association of fibrinogen levels with the presence, extent, or severity of coronary atherosclerosis. 23,24.
