Abstract
To summarize, the presence of hemodynamically severe AS by Doppler echocardiography indicates a markedly increased risk for death within 4 years in persons aged 75 to 86 years. Moderate AS, too, may increase mortality in the elderly, whereas mild AS has a favorable outcome in the short term.
