Abstract :
The synthesis of a highly functionalizable hexahydro-2H-pyrano[3,2-c]pyridin-4(3H)-one core is described and sequentially involves a hetero-Diels Alder (HDA) reaction and an intramolecular Mannich reaction resulting in selective formation of the trans-fused ring geometry.
