The effect of glutathione on the motility, enzyme leakage and fertility of frozen goat semen

Addition of glutathione (5 mM) during deep frozen preservation of goat semen in Tris medium increased the motility of thawed spermatozoa and decreased the percentage of acrosomal abnormality. Addition of 5 mM of glutathione decreased the release of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) enzymes from the sperm cell in the medium. Fertility rate with Tris + 5 mM glutathione extended semen was higher, but not significantly so, than with Tris diluted semen.
