Abstract
Charge transfer across the metal/solution interface is the essence of electrode kinetics. Until now this has been discussed in terms of electron transfer across the interface. It is shown here that this treatment cannot be applied to metal deposition/dissolution, since the electrons are in the conduction band of the metal in both the initial and the final states.
velopment of a quantitative theory of charge transfer by ions, applicable for metal deposition and dissolution processes, which is consistent with experimental observations, could be the next big challenge in the theory of charge transfer in electrode kinetics.
