Abstract :
We report the kinetics of the gas-phase reactions of TiO X 3 Δ with O 2 , H 2 , N 2 , CH 4 , C 2 H 4 , and C 2 H 6 at 297 K and total pressures of up to 2.00 Torr using an argon bath gas. TiO was produced by the reaction of Ti atoms generated by laser vaporization with O2 and was detected using cavity ring-down spectroscopy. No reaction was observed with H 2 , N 2 , CH 4 , and C 2 H 6 . The rate constant with C 2 H 4 was found to depend on the total pressure, suggesting a reaction mechanism involving an adduct formation.
