Abstract :
Crossed supersonic beams were employed to study the ionization reactions at various collision energies E (≈1–7 kcal/mol) of Ne∗ (2p53s 3P2, 3P0) with CO, N2, NO, CO2, C2H2, and O2. Reasons for non-Franck–Condon behavior and possible mechanisms (Penning, excitation transfer, and ion-pair) are discussed. Complete fits, populations, and line shifts are given for CO, N2, NO, and C2H2. With increasing E, CO and N2 exhibited a blue shift that increased, whereas NO (X and a) and C2H2 exhibited a blue shift that decreased. Line shifts for CO2 and O2 are given, as is a partial CO2 fit.
