Abstract
Pulsed laser photolysis–laser-induced fluorescence (PLP–LIF) techniques were used to study the reactions of Cl(2P3/2) atoms with C2H2 (k1), C2H4 (k2), and C3H6 (k3) in 2–100 Torr of N2 diluent at 295 ± 2 K. The results are in good agreement with those from relative rate studies, improve our understanding of the pressure dependence of the title reactions, and indicate that when timescales for chlorine atom decay and regeneration are not decoupled the results from PLP–RF experiments do not provide reliable kinetic data for reactions of chlorine atoms with organic compounds.
