Abstract :
We have explored the structural and optical properties of the rare earth (Tb) and transition elements (Cu) co-doped CdSe nanorods. The pure and 5% Tb, Cu co-doped CdSe nanorods were synthesized by using solvothermal synthesis process. From transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis, it was observed that the average diameter of the Tb, Cu co-doped CdSe nanorods is about 25 nm with varied lengths in nanometer range. X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies show the wurtzite (hexagonal) structure with lattice parameters a = 4.214 Å and c = 6.904 Å for pure CdSe nanorods and zinc blende structure for co-doped nanorods. The UV–Visible (UV–Vis) studies show Tb, Cu co-doped nanorods showed blue shift with respect to the bulk value. The band gap of the co-doped CdSe nanorods was found to be more than un-doped CdSe nanorods. PL studies of co-doped CdSe nanorods showed slightly enhanced photoluminescence. The thermal stability of the co-doped CdSe nanorods was enhanced as compared to the un-doped counterparts.
