Abstract :
A batch of naturally contaminated maize was treated with water and different concentrations of NaCl in water by immersing for 5 min and removing the upper buoyant fraction. Both the buoyant and non-buoyant fraction were analysed for fumonisin B1. With water alone upto 74% of the toxin was removed in the buoyant layer. Maximum effective removal was up to 86% with saturated NaCl solution. Thirty per cent NaCl solution and above can be effectively used for physical decontamination of fumonisin-contaminated maize. ©
