Abstract :
The complexes formed between different metal ions and biological molecules like amino acids play an important role in human life. Sn(II), Sn(IV), Zn(II), Cd(II), Hg(II), Cr(III), Fe(III), La(III), ZrO(II) and UO2(II) complexes are synthesized with l-tyrosine (tyr). These complexes are characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic measurements, mass, IR, UV–vis and 1H NMR spectra as well as thermogravimetric analysis (TGA/DTG). It has been found from the elemental analysis and the thermal studies that the ligand behaves as bidentate ligand forming chelates with 1:3 (metal:ligand) stoichiometry for trivalent metals and 1:2 for divalent and tetravalent metals. The molar conductance measurements of the complexes in DMSO indicate that the complexes are non-electrolyte. The activation energies and other kinetic parameters were calculated from the Coats–Redfern and Horowitz–Metzger equations. The biological activities of the metal complexes have also been studied against different bacteria and fungi.
