Abstract
The structural features of the three copper(II) co-ordination polymers derived from (4-carboxymethoxy-2,3-bis-arylsulfanylnaphthalene-1-yloxy)-acetic acid are presented. Each of these co-ordination polymers has five and six co-ordination at alternative positions. The uniform alternate co-ordination is explained on the basis of orientation of the carboxylate groups that arises due to steric congestion created by the thiolate groups. The orientation of thiolate groups in the crystal structure of bis-2,3-(4-methylphenylsulfanyl) naphthalene-1,4-diol is compared with respect to the thiolate groups in the complexes.
