Abstract
The intercalation of (+)-dibenzoyl-d-tartaric acid (DBTA) into Mg–Al layered double hydroxides (LDH-CO3 and LDH-NO3) by ion-exchange method have been investigated. The samples thus obtained were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, DSC-TG, UV, EA and ICP. The results show that the original interlayer carbonate ions and nitrate ions can be replaced by the organic anions under the controlled conditions. The interlayer spaces of the materials are expanded to 1.95 and 2.03 nm. The pillared LDHs (DBTA-LDHs) have crystallized supramolecular structure and thermal stability. The molecules of DBTA may stay in the layers in a bilayer with the carboxylate groups pointing towards the LDHs layers. The two planes associated with aromatic ring of DBTA molecules are parallel to each other and the orbits of bonds overlap partly, forming two big off-region Π bonds.
