Abstract :
Molar excess enthalpies, HE, at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure are reported for seven binary liquid mixtures containing Methyl Cellosolve (2-methoxyethanol) as a common component and aliphatic alcohols as non-common components. The non-common components include methanol, ethanol, propan-1-ol, butan-1-ol, 2-methylpropan-1-ol, 2-methylpropan-2-ol and pentan-1-ol. All the systems are characterised by endothermic mixing over the entire composition range except for the mixtures of 2-methoxyethanol with methanol, for which HE is negative. The HE data are interpreted on the basis of possible intermolecular interactions between unlike molecules.
