Abstract :
A recent method aims to characterize solvents in terms of given solute–solvent interactions. A general-solvation LSER equation was devised and used in gas chromatography. The capacity to interact, which are characterized by nonspecific terms (dispersion/cavity, dipolarity, polarizability) and specific terms (hydrogen bonds), is determined by physico-chemical methods for the probes and measured for the solvent with the chromatographic process. These terms, which reflect the electronic structures of the molecules and can be called structural descriptors, are responsible for many of the properties of the liquids. They lead to models to predict such characteristics like transport properties.
