Abstract :
The static relative permittivity (dielectric constant) of three fluoroalcohols, 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol, 2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropanol, and 2,2,3,3,3-pentafluoropropanol in the liquid phase has been measured using the LCR-meter method at temperatures from 293 to 323 K under pressures up to 50 MPa. The uncertainty of the measurements is estimated to be within 1.0%. Experimental data at constant temperatures are correlated with pressure by the Owen–Brinkley equation. The Kirkwood theory was used to obtain apparent dipole moments in the liquid phase. The effects of temperature, pressure, and density on the relative permittivity of these fluoroalcohols, together with the corresponding hydrocarbon alcohols, are discussed.
