Abstract :
The experimental densities and speeds of sound of H2O–KCl–MgCl2–CaCl2 and H2O–KCl–MgCl2–CaCl2–NaCl systems are reported at ionic strength 3 mol kg−1 and at 298.15 K. Mean apparent molar volumes and adiabatic compressibilities are derived from these densities and speeds of sound, which are analysed in terms of Youngʹs rule of mixing. The properties calculated from ΔmixV and ΔmixK show good agreement with those obtained from the experiments.
