Abstract :
Isobaric vapor–liquid equilibria were measured at 101.3 kPa, in a range of temperatures from 337.56 to 387.16 K, for the binary mixtures of nitroethane with methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 2-propanol, 2-butanol, and 2-methyl-2-propanol. Calculations of nonideality of the vapor phase were made with Soave–Redlich–Kwong equation of state. The results were found thermodynamically consistent according to the Van Ness–Byer–Gibbs point-to-point consistency and Herington’s area tests. All the systems exhibit a positive deviation from ideality, and five systems show minimum boiling azeotropes. The experimental data have been correlated with the mole fraction using the Wilson, NRTL, UNIQUAC, Redlich–Kister, and Wisniak–Tamir equations. The experimental data were also compared to predictions obtained using modified UNIFAC (Dortmund).
