Abstract
Isothermal solubilities at 323.15 K, of benzene, tetrahydrofuran and 2-butanone in poly(vinyl acetate) are reported. These data, in the concentrated polymer regime, were measured using a recently constructed quartz crystal balance. Solvent activities were represented with a modified Flory–Huggins activity model to within experimental error. Our results compared with available literature data favorably. Three free volume activity models described in the literature predicted our experimental results with reasonable accuracy.
