Abstract :
A novel experimental method was developed for measuring the methanol partitioning between water and hydrocarbon phases at 0.1–69 MPa and 0–50 °C. The reliability of this method was established by comparing data from this method to reported data from Chen et al. (GPA RR-117, 1987). Methanol partitioning between aqueous and hydrocarbon phases was measured for a methane + n-heptane mixture and three oils from the Gulf of Mexico. The results of these measurements were compared to predictions from PVTSim® 13 and Multiflash® 3.2. The discrepancies between the predicted and measured methanol solubilities in the hydrocarbon phases had an overall average of 27% and ranged up to 78%.
