Abstract :
The densities ρ for binary liquid mixtures containing dipropylene glycol monopropyl ether and methanol, 1-propanol, 1-pentanol and 1-heptanol have been measured as a function of composition using an Antan-Paar DSA 5000 densimeter at T = (288.15, 298.15, and 308.15) K and atmospheric pressure over the whole concentration range. The density values were used to calculate excess molar volumes V m E which further allowed the following mixing quantities to be reported in all range of concentrations or at equimolar concentrations: α, volume expansivity; ( δ V m E / δ T ) P ; (δHE/δP)T at T = 298.15 K. The obtained results have been compared at 298.15 K with the calculated values using the Flory theory of liquid mixtures. The theory predicts the α, and αE values rather well, while the calculated values of ( δ V m E / δ T ) P and (δHE/δP)T show general variation with the alkyl chain length of the n-alkanols. The results are discussed in terms of order or disorder creation.
