Abstract :
A method of generalized complex modes is described. It is an effective tool for investigating vibration of structures that contain viscoelastic media. The method is based on the description of the viscoelastic properties by differential operators which approximate variations of the viscoelastic characteristics in the frequency domain with reasonable accuracy. The equations obtained are solved by expansions into series in generalized complex modes. The advantages of the method are demonstrated by an example of studying the vibration of solid propellant rocket engine (SPRE). The results obtained are compared with solutions determined by other methods. The effect of the viscoelastic Poisson ratio on the amplitudes of forced vibrations of the SPRE is investigated.
