Transfer of physics detector models into computer aided design systems

The large and expensive detectors proposed for the LHC experiments will require detailed simulation and modelling. As the engineering work on detectors makes use of an increasing number of computer aided engineering tools, data transfer of detector models from physics simulation programs to computer aided design systems is essential. We describe a neutral file interface implemented within the GEANT physics simulation package. The interface allows transfer of detector models from GEANT to CAD systems.
