Background subtraction of multiple-fold gamma-ray coincidence data: an operator approach

An expression for the background subtraction of multiple gamma-ray coincidence data sets may be generated in a simple operator notation. The operator and its physical justification are discussed. Approximations which simplify the expressions for common reduced data sets are evaluated and demonstrated.
