Transition radiation detector in the D0 colliding beam experiment at Fermilab

The construction, operation and response of the Transition Radiation Detector (TRD) at D0 colliding beam experiment at Fermilab are presented. The use of the TRD signal to enhance electron identification and hadronic rejection in the multiparticle background characteristic for the antiproton-proton interactions at the center-of-mass energy of 1.8 TeV is also described and results are discussed.
