Abstract :
This paper demonstrates the design of a moderator system that is capable of obtaining image plane fluxes on the order of 106 ncm−2s−1 from continuous wave linacs with currents of ten mA or less of protons in the range 2.5 to 4 MeV. A Monte Carlo code has been used to analyze target/moderator configurations that could be used with an accelerator such as Argonneʹs Continuous Wave Linac (ACWL). These analyses have shown the feasibility of using ACWL or other high current linacs to generate neutron beams with high intensity.
