First results with the H1 backward silicon strip detector

The Backward Silicon Tracker (BST) of the H1 experiment at HERA measures the polar angle of particles scattered in the backward direction. It presently consists of 4 planes of 16 wedge shaped, AC-coupled, single-sided double-metallized silicon strip detectors with a pitch of 48 μm. This paper presents results from the first two months of data taking in 1997 using a new readout electronics with programmable hit finding for the first time.
