Abstract :
A prototype of the electromagnetic section of a high-density calorimeter was constructed and tested with electrons up to 75 GeV. Using W (Pb) as absorber material, and a “Spaghetti”-type readout the average density was 15.2 (9.8) g/cm3. The resolution for electromagnetic showers was measured to be σ(E)/E=53%/E⊕6% for W and σ(E)/E=28%/E⊕8% for Pb.
