Abstract :
When a piece of plastic sheet is placed in the path of an ultrasonic fountain generated using a medical nebulizer in water, temperatures of up to 250°C can be produced on the face of the sheet opposite the fountain impact. This paper describes the experimental methodology and results, and suggests that this phenomenon is the combined result of both the heating and mechanical effect of ultrasonic cavitation within the fountain.
