Abstract :
The silylation of several bromothiophenes has been investigated. Contrary to previous reports, under our conditions, 3-bromothiophene was unreactive but 2-bromothiophene, 2,5-dibromothiophene, 2,3,5-tribromothiophene and tetrabromothiophene were efficiently converted into various silylated thiophenes using magnesium and chlorotrimethylsilane under sonochemical conditions. Comparable stirred and reflux reactions in the quiet are also reported.
