Abstract :
Wireless Sensor Networks is an promising epitome of correlating and calculating, where a node may be self-powered and discrete node have the proficiency to intellect and interconnect. Since all sensor nodes in Wireless Sensor Networks work by their own embedded batteries, if a node runs out of its battery, the sensor network cannot operate normally. In such a situation, we should employ the routing protocols which can consume the energy of nodes efficiently. Many protocols for energy efficient routing in sensor networks have been suggested. We proposed a hybrid routing protocol of LEACH, PEGASIS and Q-DIR, which uses the clustering mechanism of LEACH, the chaining mechanism of PEGASIS, location based routing and restricted flooding of Q-DIR for increasing the energy efficiency in a sensor network. It avoids creating more overhead on cluster head by employing rendezvous nodes, limits the broadcasting region to a quadrant by employing Q-DIR routing protocol . With the new protocol suggested in this paper we could overcome the drawback of LEACH and PEGASIS as the overhead and early die of Clusterhead is reduced by rendezvous nodes. Simulation results show that our scheme reduces energy consumption and prolongs the network lifetime as compared to LEACH and PEGASIS.
