Abstract :
The characteristics of a segmented clover germanium detector have been studied using a fusion–evaporation reaction (27Al+ 28Si) at 100 MeV bombarding energy at three different distances (11, 15 and 22 cm) from the target. The γ transitions, which have been used for these studies, are emitted by the nuclei 51Cr and 46Ti populated at medium spin states by the 27Al(28Si, 3pn) and 27Al(28Si, 2αpn) channels, respectively. The analyses have been performed, firstly by considering this detector as “classical” (without segmentation) and, secondly by using the information of hit segments. The comparison gives a measurement of the segmentation effect on the resolution in energy which can be achieved in such a type of fusion–evaporation reactions.
