Abstract :
At the low β region of induction ion accelerators, ion beams must be longitudinally compressed to avoid space charge explosion. This means that the tail must be accelerated more than the head of the beam bunch with a carefully programmed voltage waveform that gradually increases with time. We propose a scheme for the repetitive operation of the induction module to synthesize the acceleration voltage. In this scheme, the voltage is stacked and synthesized by independently driven modules. Each module is composed of a simple L–C based circuit and driven by Field Effect Transistors (FETs). The L–C based circuits make sinusoidal waveforms; V(t)=[1−cos(ωt-δ)]h/2, which enable highly repetitive and low core-loss operation of the induction units. Moreover, this scheme is robust against time jitter of the module switching and non-linear characteristics of the ferromagnetic core materials.
