Abstract :
Magnetic Gd/Fe and Gd/Co multilayer structures with d-spacing of about 1 nm were probed with elliptically polarized synchrotron radiation (SR). The intensity dependence of the magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) around the 3d absorption edge of Gd at room temperature was measured as a function of the degree of circular polarization in order to utilize the MCD effect for quantitative polarization analysis of SR in soft X-ray range.
