The construction of the Silicon Strip Tracker for the CMS experiment

The CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider will have a large Silicon Strip Tracker. The status of the project is here reviewed. The detector layout is presented, and the main components are described. The construction of such a large scale detector requires an adequate organization in terms of production and quality assurance. Finally the tests performed on the system are presented.
