Abstract :
Visible edge radiation generated by a high-energy electron beam in fringe fields of storage ring bending magnets differs significantly from the well-known synchrotron radiation. Spatial distributions of edge radiation in a near ultraviolet, visible and near infrared regions were experimentally measured at HiSOR storage ring (Hiroshima, Japan). The measurements clearly show that edge radiation intensity in this spectral range is higher than that of synchrotron radiation. Good agreement is found between the measurements and calculated characteristics using the SMELRAD computer code.
