Abstract
The proton energy and the average current of the Korea Multipurpose Accelerator Complex(KOMAC) should be 20 MeV and 4.8 mA, respectively. This creates a beam power of 96 kW. By considering a FWHM of 1 cm with a Gaussian distribution, the average power density is 139 kW/cm3 with a peak power of 200 kW/cm3. In this paper, a design concept for the KOMAC beam dump to safely absorb the proton beam energy will be presented and the numerical results of the heat transfer and the thermal stress analyses will be discussed.
