Dynamic Virtual Agricultural Knowledge Support Provision for the Transformation of South African Emerging Farmers

In this paper, a strategy of agricultural knowledge support infrastructure that would enable the transformation of South African emerging farmers into market-oriented agricultural production is discussed. The competence of emerging farmers to manage market-oriented enterprise are currently inadequate. This was due to the injustices of the past, characterized by substandard and exclusion in mainstream agricultural education. Efficient and effective management of quantity, quality, complex agricultural resources and tools are basic requirement in market-oriented farming. Provision of knowledge support beyond the common static information spread is a necessity to ensure equal participation in South African agricultural domain. In this study, qualitative interpretive field research approach and grounded theory design was adopted. Usage of dynamic virtua agricultural knowledge-support platform proposed was aim at providing one point of access and interaction, that could faciliate on-the-job training and justin- time knowledge exchange and collaboration amongst farming stakeholders.
