Abstract :
The solid–liquid phase equilibria (SLE) of the (1-octanol+n-alkane) systems have been investigated at temperatures from 263 to 293 K and pressures up to 200 MPa by the visual observation with a high-pressure optical vessel. In this work, (1-octanol+n-octane or n-dodecane) systems are discussed. The uncertainties of the measurements of temperature, pressure, and composition are within ±0.1 K, ±0.5 MPa, and ±0.001 mole fraction, respectively. The solid–liquid coexistence curve and the eutectic point are found to increase to higher temperatures monotonically with increasing pressure in these systems. A new correlation method in order to represent the SLE curves under high-pressure was proposed based on the general solubility equation of a solid in a liquid at atmospheric pressure.
