Abstract :
Water quality models are often simplified with assumptions, for reasons such as ease of development and application. The user must be aware of the implications of model assumptions or gross misuse may result. This paper examines the most frequently used assumptions, including steady-state, complete-mixing, and first-order kinetics, with discussions regarding the applicability to simplified models.
