  • Abstract
Objective ch on childrenʹs risk of injury reveals that parent and child factors are often interrelated. This study examined relations between childrenʹs risk taking, parent appraisal of this risk taking, and childrenʹs rate of injury in youth 8 and 9 years old. s ses to questionnaires and laboratory tasks were used to examine whether extent of consistency in childrenʹs physical risk taking related to mothersʹ accuracy in predicting childrenʹs risk behaviors, and if mothersʹ accuracy scores, in turn, related to rate of unintentional injury for their school-age children. s consistency in risk taking predicted parental accuracy in judging childrenʹs risk taking, and degree and direction of accuracy predicted childrenʹs injury rates. sions sʹ judgments about their childrenʹs likelihood of risk taking are influenced by childrenʹs behavioral consistency and have implications for childrenʹs frequency of injury.
