Abstract :
The aim of the present study is to identify the role of parents in childhood in shaping attachment styles and suicide attempts in adulthood. The method used in this study is comparison between the two groups of Suicide attempters and a control group. The research population includes all suicide attempters that have referred to Loghman Hospital and have attempt suicide by poisoning. The sampling method used in this study is simple random sampling that from the list of the people referred to this hospital in odd days 108 people have been selected as the main group and 107 other people have been selected as the control group. The measurement instruments of this study are the Hazen Shaverʹs attachment style questionnaire and an author-made questionnaire. The attachment style questionnaire includes 21 items that for testing its reliability Cronbachʹs alpha test has been used that is equal to 71.74, 0.0 and 0.72 for all the participants, respectively, that indicate to internal consistency of the questionnaire. The results of the research indicate that there is no significant different in terms of age, gender, marital status and level of education between the two groups of experimental and control that are being studied in this research. However, there is a significant relationship between the two groups in terms of psychiatric disorders except for psychosis. Also, no significant difference has been observed between the two groups in terms of not having parents. In terms of ambivalence attachment style the difference between the two groups is significant, however, in terms of secure, avoidant style no significant difference was observed.
