Abstract :
The solubility of Cr in TiAl, at 1000 and 800°C, in the TiAlCr ternary system is examined. Based on the results, partial isothermal sections, showing the relationship of TiAl with the neighboring phases have been constructed. The solubility of TiAl increases into the ternary with increasing Al content at 1000°C, to a maximum of about 8 at.% Cr. At 800°C, the maximum solubility of TiAl is about 4.5 at.% Cr. The separation of the β/B2 phase field into the β(Cr) and B2 phase regions is examined. The phase separation temperature was found to be about 1100°C. Finally, the data from the current study is combined with information from the literature to construct isothermal sections of the TiAlCr system at 1000 and 800°C.
